Senior customs and police officers from EULEX have praised the work of their local counterparts in seizing a large amount of drugs, believed to be heroin.

Twenty-five kilograms of the drug were found on a bus at the Hani I Elezit/Đeneral Janković border crossing with FYROM on Tuesday 29 November. A number of arrests were later carried out by Kosovo Police.

“It is very encouraging to see that Kosovo Customs and Kosovo Border Police have demonstrated initiative and enthusiasm in this operation. The amount of drugs seized on this occasion is substantial, representing around fifty per cent of the total heroin seized in Kosovo in the previous year. This successful operation shows how well local law enforcement agencies are progressing,” said Mike Marsden, Head of EULEX Customs.

“Kosovo Police should also be congratulated for their involvement in the seizure,” said Rene Boumendil, Deputy Head of EULEX Police. “Operations like this demonstrate the increasing professionalism of the KP and, hopefully, more such operations will be carried out in the future,” he added.

EULEX customs and police officers continue to work closely with the local law enforcement agencies, supporting them in monitoring, mentoring and advising in serious cases like this drugs case.
