EULEX Head of Mission meets Kosovo women

Xavier de Marnhac, the Head of the EULEX Rule of Law Mission in Kosovo met today Kosovo women for a round table discussion with the topic “The Effects of Corruption on the Lives of Women”. The round table is a realization of de Marnhac’s commitment made last year on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the UNSC Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security to hold regular meetings.

The round table gave Kosovo women the opportunity to raise their concerns regarding corruption. The participants pointed out that corruption has a negative impact on affordable health services, on access to jobs, bank loans, and access to justice in general. Establishing effective mechanisms of accountability would help prevent discrimination against women.

The Head of Mission emphasized the mission’s mandate to assist Kosovo institutions in all areas of the rule of law, including the fight against corruption: “Gender equality also means good governance, rule of law, respect for human rights, transparency, accountability, participation, and inclusion. If these principles are respected, then generally, there is less tendency for corruptive practices and corruption in general”, he said.

Introductory comments were made by Hajredin Kuqi, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Justice, and the Minister of Interior Bajram Rexhepi, who also participated in the discussion.
