25 March 2019

EULEX Integrated Border Management Senior Advisor Alan Wilson participated in a workshop for the finalisation of the new National IBM Strategy in cooperation with the Export Control and Related Border Security Program (EXBS).

The workshop brought 35 government officials and experts involved in border and internal security matters together. The purpose was to finalize the new IBM Strategy (2019-2023), which highlights Kosovo’s achievements and focuses on the current challenges and emerging threats concerning border security. “The aim of the workshop was to bring all the different institutions together and to approve a final draft. The significance of the National IBM Strategy is that it serves as an umbrella which incorporates all issues related to border and internal security”, highlighted Mr Wilson, IBM Senior Advisor.

The new IBM Strategy and associated Action Plan will play an important role in Kosovo’s capacity to combat cross-border crimes and in protecting and strengthening Kosovo’s external borders. In his closing remarks, Isa Xhemajlaj, the National IBM Coordinator/Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs gave special thanks to EULEX for all the support and technical advice provided “through every single step of the process” in drafting the new IBM Strategy and Action Plan.
