EULEX Marks the Kosovo National Day of Missing Persons

27 April

On 27 April 2024, the Kosovo National Day of Missing Persons, the Deputy Head of Mission of the European Union Rule of Law Mission in Kosovo (EULEX), Emily Rakhorst, joined the Kosovo authorities in paying respect to the 1615 missing persons from the Kosovo conflict.

All missing persons’ family members have the right to know the truth about the fate of their loved ones. We remain committed to relentlessly working with the Kosovo Institute of Forensic Medicine and other relevant institutions to help them fulfil this right by finding missing persons, while sharing advice and expertise in identifying still unrevealed graves, conducting exhumation and identifying the victims.

From 2009 until today, EULEX has actively participated in 800 field operations to locate missing persons, including 209 exhumations. The remains of 501 individuals have been identified, including 343 missing persons.
