The EULEX Head of Mission, Xavier de Marnhac, visited the first time the Police Inspectorate of Kosovo (PIK). As part of its mandate to support local rule of law institutions, EULEX is working to ensure a fully functional PIK, and a Kosovo Police that is committed to cooperate fully with the PIK.
During his visit, Xavier de Marnhac reiterated EULEX’s commitment to PIK, saying: ”It was important to come and visit the PIK because it is a key institution for the citizens of Kosovo. It is where the confidence they can have in their police can find its best expression. The role of the PIK is part of the many benchmarks that Kosovo rule of law institutions will have to fulfil to gain a visa free regime into the near future.” One of the ways in which EULEX is supporting the PIK is through a TV campaign to raise the profile of PIK and illustrate its importance to Kosovo people
Fitim Shishani, PIK’s Director General also commented saying: "We have discussed about many professional issues with Mr de Marnhac and he offered us support especially when it comes to logistics. We are very happy that he came to talk to us about many issues which have to do with investigations and inspections on the Kosovo Police."
