EULEX experts from the Department of Forensic Medicine (DFM) in cooperation with the Search and Rescue divers of the Kosovo Security Force (KSF) have conducted a site assessment operation at Livoç/Livoč Lake near Gjilan/Gnjilane, searching for remains of missing persons.
“On this occasion no remains were located”, said Alan Robinson, the co-head of the Department of Forensic Medicine, adding that the team was ready to go and assess the site again “if provided with better information”.
This operation was a result of successful collaboration between EULEX/DFM and the KSF. “We are very grateful for the dedication and professionalism of KSF, and we very much look forward to work with them in our future operations”, said Robinson.
Tomorrow (11 May) at Zhilivoda/Žilivoda near Vushtrri/Vučitrn, EULEX/DFM in cooperation with KSF will restart the site assessment, which began at the end of August 2010. It is expected that this excavation will last around 4 months.
Since EULEX experts joined DFM in December 2008, the department has conducted over 270 field operations. More than 135 missing persons have been found.
