EULEX puts a high priority on war crimes issues - especially in locating the remains of individuals still missing from the 1998-99 conflict and its aftermath.
We have been working on this particular case for some time. We have provided information and intelligence relating to the possible site of a mass grave in the Raska region. But we are still waiting for confirmation if this site has indeed been located.
EULEX has two principal departments that are involved in searching for mass grave sites and investigating the circumstances surrounding them. They are: the Office on Missing Persons and Forensics (OMPF) and the EULEX War Crimes Investigation Unit. Both these organisations have liaised with the Serbian authorities over the location of this current site. EULEX believes regional cooperation, not just with Serbia but with other regional actors, is vital in trying to solve these issues which affect so many people from all different communities.
We cannot give more information at this time until the site has been confirmed to be that of a mass grave - and in order to protect the investigation.
