EULEX condemns the violent actions of a small minority of people in Kroi I Vitakut/Brdjani yesterday. A hand grenade exploded on the spot, shots were fired in the air and several stones were thrown. A number of people were injured.
Police were forced to use tear gas to disperse the protestors who broke through Kosovo Police lines.
EULEX was acting in support of the Kosovo police and in coordination with KFOR in order to preserve public order and to prevent a further escalation of violence.
We ask for restraint from both communities. It is up to the parties to resolve this issue through negotiation and dialogue. EULEX stands ready to react to any threat to law and order.
