Today, EULEX commemorates the fourth anniversary of the death of Audrius Šenavičius, a Lithuanian Customs Officer who was killed in the line of duty in northern Kosovo on 19 September 2013. The Head of Mission Alexandra Papadopoulou laid a wreath in his memory at the site where he was shot and the entire mission observed a one-minute moment of silence.  A representative of  Zvečan/Zveçan municipality and the Kosovo Police Regional Commander North Nenad Djurić were also present.

“Four years ago today, our colleague, Audrius Šenavičius, was tragically murdered. Today we pay our respects to his life and his dedicated service. May his memory be eternal.  My thoughts are with his wife and two sons, who to this day still do not have answers to the many questions surrounding his murder,” Papadopoulou said.

The headquarters of the European External Action Service (EEAS) has venerated Šenavičius’ life and death through the inclusion of his name on a memorial stone with other EU personnel who have fallen in the line of duty as a reminder to all the enormous price many have paid to defend European values worldwide.

“Audrius made the ultimate sacrifice.  And nothing can replace the loss of a loved one.  We lost a valued team member and justice deserves to be served.  I appeal to any person who has information of any kind to come forward,” Papadopoulou emphasized.

EULEX continues to search for information that may help bring the perpetrators of Audrius’s murder to justice.  What may seem to be a small or insignificant observation could be a vital piece of information for the investigators.
