On 27 August, the Missing Persons Resource Center with the support of the British and U.S. Embassies in Kosovo and in cooperation with UNDP Kosovo, organized a conference with the aim to raise the public awareness in support to the process of enlightening the fate of missing persons.
Tarja Formisto, Deputy Director of the Institute of Forensic Medicine attended the panel discussion on the progress made so far in the identification of the victims.
Ms. Formisto stated that “The accuracy of information given from the families of victims to the local authorities is vital to proceed with proper investigation and identification. The confirmation of the information through evidence remains the most important element to the identification process”.
The conference was attended and included representatives from the British and U.S. embassies alongside with the ones from the EU Office in Kosovo, EULEX and Civil Society Organizations as well as the family relatives of missing persons.
It is expected that the conference outcome report will capture key findings and recommendations, which will be disseminated among conference partners and participants with the aim of identifying opportunities for future actions and collaboration.
