The European Union Rule of Law Mission in Kosovo (EULEX) marked Europe Day with a parade of its Formed Police Unit (FPU) and its Reserve Formed Police Unit (RFPU) in a demonstration of unity and solidarity among the peoples of Europe.
During the ceremony, the European anthem “Ode to Joy” was played as the EULEX police officers flew the EU flag. The celebration of Europe Day concluded with a parade of Polish police officers from EULEX’s FPU and Portuguese and French gendarmes from EULEX’s RFPU in front of the Head of the EU Office in Kosovo /EU Special Representative, Tomáš Szunyog, the Head of EULEX, Lars-Gunnar Wigemark, and representatives of EU Member States.
Marking this year’s Europe Day is more important than ever as peace and security in Europe is challenged due to Russia’s war against Ukraine, which can also affect the stability and security of the Western Balkans. As Kosovo’s second security responder, EULEX is in Kosovo on behalf of the European Union and its Member States to provide an additional security blanket and reassure its Kosovo partners that the EU has every interest in a stable and peaceful Kosovo.
Happy Europe Day!
To mark the Europe Day, EULEX Formed Police Unit and the Reserve Formed Police Unit held a team building exercise during which mixed teams of Polish police officers, French and Portuguese gendarmes tested their skills through challenging exercises.
Unity in Diversity!
