On 19 September, the Head of the European Union Rule of Law Mission in Kosovo (EULEX), Lars-Gunnar Wigemark, and the Deputy General Director of the Kosovo Police for Resources, Dejan Janković, honored the memory of Audrius Šenavicius, EULEX’s Customs Officer from Lithuania who was killed in the line of duty when his vehicle came under fire from unknown persons in northern Kosovo on 19 September 2013.
Wigemark expressed his solidarity with Šenavicius‘s family and friends, remarking how his tragic death is still an open wound, as nine years on, the perpetrators of this murder have not been identified.
“You were a professional customs officer, serving the European Union to bring peace and stability. We have not forgotten you. You are in our memories,” Wigemark said, adding: “We are grateful for the efforts of the Kosovo Police, who are still investigating this unresolved case.”
During the wreath-laying ceremony, the Kosovo Police Deputy General Director for Resources, Dejan Janković, said: “Our presence here today is a confirmation that we will continue our investigation and efforts to solve this case and to bring justice.”
EULEX appeals to any person who may have information that can assist the police to come forward. The Mission offers a reward of 82,000 euros for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the perpetrator or the perpetrators of this murder.
