On 6 February, the Head of the European Union Rule of Law Mission in Kosovo (EULEX), Lars-Gunnar Wigemark, gave an interview to the Associated Press, commenting on the tense situation in northern Kosovo at the end of 2022.

“I think this was the most serious crisis that Kosovo has faced in the north in the last ten years; a very tense standoff with barricades,” Wigemark said, adding that the Mission is continuing to closely monitor the situation as it could easily escalate again.

Describing EULEX’s increased presence on the ground, Wigemark said that the Mission tripled its reconnaissance patrols in northern Kosovo, including foot patrols.

In the interview, Wigemark also called on both parties - Kosovo and Serbia- to move forward on their path towards EU integration.
