On 29 May, the Head of the European Union Rule of Law Mission in Kosovo (EULEX), Lars-Gunnar Wigemark, talked about the recent security developments and EULEX’s engagement in northern Kosovo in two separate interviews to ABC News Albania and to the Swedish national television, SVT.
Talking to ABC News Albania, Wigemark stated: “The kind of violence that we are seeing is not acceptable. Violence is never a solution.” He also called for de-escalation and restraint.
“We have a clear mandate to support the stability and security here in Kosovo, together with our security partners, the Kosovo Police and KFOR NATO,” Wigemark explained, confirming the readiness of the Mission to assist both the Kosovo Police and KFOR, if requested.
In his interview with SVT, EULEX’s Head of Mission explained: “Demonstrations in Kosovo are the culmination of a time of heightened tensions in the region and there has been a security vacuum in northern Kosovo at least since the end of last year.”
