On 18 September, 20 Lithuanian gendarmes, members of the European Gendarmerie Force (EUROGENDFOR), were temporarily deployed to Kosovo to join the existing Reserve Formed Police Unit (RFPU) of the European Union Rule of Law Mission in Kosovo (EULEX), which is currently composed of 24 gendarmes from the Italian Carabinieri.

The RFPU’s Lithuanian gendarmes will temporarily reinforce the capacity of EULEX’s Formed Police Unit, made up of 105 Polish Police Officers, in order to respond to the Mission’s need to have additional forces on the ground and be able to better support Kosovo counterparts, if requested and if necessary.
