On 12 November 1999, a plane chartered by the United Nations World Food Program (WFP), flight 3275, crashed on mount Piceli, north-east of Mitrovica, killing 24 women and men, mostly international officials and humanitarian and aid workers.

On 9 November, ahead of the tragic anniversary, a delegation of the Italian contingent of the European Union Rule of Law Mission in Kosovo’s (EULEX), alongside representatives from the United Nations Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK) and the Carabinieri Multinational Specialized Unit (MSU) of KFOR, paid respect to their memory, service and sacrifice with a wreath laying ceremony at the memorial site, organized by the Italian State Police.
