Remembering Sergeant Bunjaku. One year on

24 September

Honouring the life of a Police Officer who was killed whilst in the line of duty is never an easy task. Yet, Kosovo Police Officer Sergeant Afrim Bunjaku paid the ultimate price one year ago, where he was killed during the Banjska/Banjskë attack.

To mark the one-year commemoration of this fateful day, EULEX Head of Mission, Giovanni Pietro Barbano joined Kosovo institutions and colleagues from the international community in paying respect to the bravery and sacrifice of Sergeant Bunjaku.

The solemn day began with a visit to the memorial dedicated to Sergeant Bunjaku, where his courage and commitment to the safety and security of Kosovo was honoured and remembered.

Following the somber visit, Barbano attended an official ceremony, where dignitaries, officials and partners came together to recognize the profound impact of Sergeant Bunjaku's service and to express continued solidarity with his family and colleagues.

The poignant minute of silence observed by all spoke volumes about Sergeant Bunjaku's legacy.

EULEX, echoing the message by the HR/VP and other partners, reiterated that all those responsible for the Banjska/Banjskë attack must face justice.

Barbano's sentiments were conveyed in "X": “Whilst his memory will remain alive, on behalf of EULEX, I reiterate the call for the swift, yet thorough adjudication of all those responsible and for justice to be delivered”.
