On 21st of January 2025, the European Union Rule of Law Mission in Kosovo (EULEX) welcomed more than 100 students from the Global Campus of Human Rights - European Master's Programme in Human Rights and Democratisation (EMA).
The group, accompanied by their professors, was welcomed by the Head of Mission of EULEX, Giovanni Pietro Barbano, who delivered a comprehensive overview of EULEX’s mandate, accomplishments, and challenges in Kosovo.
The students also received a detailed presentations from EULEX's Press and Public Information Officer, who explained the Mission’s operational framework and the support provided to Kosovo’s Rule of Law institutions. Additionally, the EULEX Human Rights Advisor offered an insightful discussion on the role of the Mission in monitoring and promoting human rights in Kosovo by supporting selected rule of law institutions in fulfilling their human rights obligations towards all individuals within their jurisdiction regardless of gender, ethnicity, religion, age, sexual orientation or any other characteristics. The discussion focused in particular on the right to fair trial, right to liberty, freedom from torture and other ill-treatment, freedom from gender-based violence, right to an effective remedy, rights of prisoners and children’s rights in juvenile justice, right to know the truth for missing persons’ families, and right to security.
During the visit, the students had the opportunity to pose a range of questions to deepen their understanding of the Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP) Missions and the evolution of EULEX’s mandate in Kosovo. And they also learned about EULEX’s international internship program, which offers young graduates a unique opportunity for hands-on experience in the field.
