EULEX Head of Mission Highlights the Importance of an Independent and Impartial Justice System at the Annual Conference of Kosovo Prosecutors

01 November

On 1 November 2025, the Head of the European Union Rule of Law Mission in Kosovo (EULEX), Giovanni Pietro Barbano, participated in the Annual Conference of Kosovo Prosecutors, which brought together chief prosecutors and prosecutors from all prosecution offices, as well as representatives of Kosovo's rule of law institutions and international organizations.

Addressing the participants, Barbano reaffirmed EULEX’s longstanding commitment to supporting an independent and impartial prosecutorial system through robust monitoring activities: “The independence of the prosecution, free from political interference, cannot be stressed enough,” he said.

“We expect that the newly elected member of the Kosovo Prosecutorial Council will reflect integrity and professionalism, further strengthening citizens’ trust in the prosecutorial system,” Barbano added.

The conference served as an important platform for discussing key priorities in the justice sector, including strengthening the rule of law in Kosovo, enhancing transparency and accountability, and fostering inter-institutional cooperation in the fight against crime.
