On 12^th November 2025, the Head of Mission of the European Union Rule Law Mission in Kosovo (EULEX), Giovanni Pietro Barbano visited the Dubrava Correctional Centre, accompanied by the Director General of the Kosovo Correctional Service (KCS) Ismail Dibrani.

At the venue, Barbano was welcomed by the Correctional Centre’s Director, Sami Gashi, who briefed about the daily work and responsibilities of the correctional staff, the challenges they face, and the efforts made in providing educational and rehabilitation services to prisoners.

The Head of EULEX had the opportunity to visit different areas of the centre, as well as to meet with several prisoners and discuss their daily lives and reintegration processes, appreciating their commitment to engaging with educators and trainers to secure themselves a better role in society and a brighter future.

Concluding the visit, Barbano reasserted EULEX’s support to KCS’s leadership through the steadfast monitoring, mentoring and advising work of the Mission’s Correctional Unit in addressing the most pressing issues, such as the need to improve facility conditions.

The visit was the second one undertaken by Barbano in recent weeks in order to gain direct insight into the ongoing cooperation between EULEX Correctional Unit and KCS. On 10^th September 2025, he visited the Pristina Detention Centre and the High Security Prison in Podujevë/Podujeva.
