Strengthening Women’s Participation in the Security Sector: EULEX supports career development of women in the Kosovo Correctional Service

14 May

Women’s meaningful participation in security and justice institutions is a core pillar of the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) agenda. Women’s equal participation and leadership are indeed key to strenghten accountability and contribute to more responsive, inclusive and effective institutions.

In line with its commitment to advancing gender equality and supporting the increased representation of women in security institutions, from 13 to 14 May 2026, the Correctional Unit, Human Resources Section and the Gender Advisor of the European Union Rule of Law Mission in Kosovo (EULEX) organised the first two-day session of a career development training programme for female members of the Kosovo Correctional Service (KCS).

Designed in accordance with the Kosovo Law on Gender Equality, the training is aimed at all female KCS personnel and focuses on strengthening professional skills and providing practical guidance on career advancement and recruitment processes, with the objective of promoting greater participation and leadership of women within the correctional system.

The first session was held at the Lipjan/Lipljan Correctional Centre, while additional sessions will be organised at other correctional facilities in the coming weeks.
