In recognition of their dedication to Kosovo’s security and stability, 89 FPU Polish Police Officers receive the EU CSDP Medal of Service

On the 10 thJune 2026, 89 Polish Police Officers from the XXXVIII Rotation of the Formed Police Unit (FPU) of the European Union Rule of Law Mission in Kosovo (EULEX) were awarded the EU Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP) Medal of Service in recognition of their dedication to Kosovo’s security and stability.

The official medal ceremony took place at the EULEX Centre Mitrovica and was presided over by EULEX Deputy Head of Mission Emily Rakhorst in the presence of a prominent Polish delegation led by Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Polish Police, General Tomasz Michułka, alongside His Excellency Ambassador Mariusz Brymora, representatives of international organizations, and other distinguished guests.

During her address, Rakhorst highlighted the vital role played by the FPU officers, noting that their professionalism and operational readiness have been essential in enabling EULEX to promote human rights while supporting stability and the rule of law as Kosovo’s second security responder. Thanking the FPU’s medal recipients for their professionalism, Rakhorst also extended her gratitude to Poland: “For many years, Poland has been one of the Mission's most committed and reliable contributors. The quality of the officers you have provided has consistently been outstanding, and today's ceremony is another reminder of that commitment.”

General Michułka commended the women and men forming the FPU for their dedicated sense of responsibility, discipline, and readiness to serve.

Addressing the officers he stated: “By serving in Kosovo, you represent not only the police of the Republic of Poland but also our country and the values of our nation and the European community: respect for the rule of law, security, human rights and international solidarity. Your daily work, often in unpredictable conditions, contributes to strengthening stability and public trust in institutions responsible for security and public order,” he said.

The ceremony was concluded by remarks of the FPU Commander, Major Marceli Abratkiewicz, who expressed his appreciation for the professionalism and commitment demonstrated by the Polish officers, recognizing the sacrifices involved in serving overseas, away from their families and loved ones.

The EULEX FPU supports stability in Kosovo and contributes to the security of all communities. The FPU is made up of 105 Polish Police Officers seconded by Poland, and it acts as second security responder forming part of a three-tiered security responder mechanism, where Kosovo Police is the first, EULEX is the second and the Nato-led KFOR mission is the third.
