On World Mental Health Day EULEX recalls the importance of recognising mental health needs of people in correctional settings

10 October

On 10 October 2026, the European Union Rule of Law Mission in Kosovo (EULEX) marked the World Mental Health Day, highlighting the importance of recognising that mental health care, dignity and well-being are equally important for people in correctional settings. Behind every case is a person with individual experiences, challenges and needs that deserve to be recognised and addressed.

The EULEX Correctional Unit works closely with the Kosovo Correctional Service (KCS) to strengthen their capacities to recognise and respond to mental health challenges, preventing self-harm and suicide, addressing addictions, and providing peer support.

By promoting awareness, professional skills and a more supportive correctional environment, EULEX and KCS are working towards safer, more humane and rehabilitation-focused correctional services.
