The European Union Rule of Law Mission in Kosovo (EULEX) strongly condemns the killing of A. Z. in the town of Vitomiricë/Vitomirica in Pejë/Peć and expresses its sincere condolences to her loved ones and all those mourning her loss.
Femicide is the most extreme manifestation of gender-based violence and a grave violation of women’s fundamental rights. No woman or girl should live in fear of violence, and every woman seeking help and protection must be able to access the support and safeguards she needs.
EULEX remains committed to supporting Kosovo’s rule of law institutions in their continued efforts to prevent and respond to gender-based violence, protect women and children at risk, and strengthen access to justice and support for survivors. This includes promoting the effective use of risk assessment tools, the implementation of protection orders, and a coordinated, victim-centred approach involving institutions, civil society and communities. Sustained efforts are also essential to address the attitudes and inequalities that enable violence against women.
Preventing femicide is a shared responsibility that requires continued commitment, cooperation and persistent action.
In line with its mandate, the Mission is closely monitoring the case and will continue to support the relevant institutions in these efforts.
