EULEX Honours Audrius Šenavičius

19 September 2018

On this day, five years ago, Audrius Šenavicius lost his life while serving as a EULEX Customs Officer. Audrius was killed as a result of gunfire while driving with colleagues to a customs gate in northern Kosovo to start their shift.
“Today we honour our dear colleague Audrius Šenavicius, who was tragically killed in the line of duty. Audrius sacrificed his own life in the service of higher values and principles, contributing his commitment, professionalism and expertise to improve the lives of the Kosovo people”, said EULEX Head of Mission Alexandra Papadopoulou.

This morning, Deputy Head of Mission Bernd Thran travelled to the site of Audrius’ tragic death to lay a wreath in his memory, accompanied by a representative of Zvecan/Zveçan municipality. All EULEX staff members observed a moment of silence to show respect to their colleague.

“The ultimate sacrifice of Audrius must always be remembered. Our thoughts are with his family and friends as well as with the Lithuanian authorities, who are still agonizingly waiting for the perpetrators of Audrius’s murder to be brought to justice. As EULEX hands over to the Kosovo judiciary the case on Audrius’ murder as part of the phasing out of its executive functions in the local justice system, I urge the Kosovo authorities to continue unabated the investigations into this heinous crime” Ms. Papadopoulou remarked.

EULEX once again calls upon anybody who may have information that may be useful for the investigations to come forward without hesitation. The Mission has made available a reward of 82.000 Euros for information leading to the arrest of the perpetrator(s).
