Five years imprisonment against N.M. for corruption

A three judge panel of the Basic Court of Peja/Pec presided over by a EULEX judge convicted four persons of abuse of official position and related offences.

The defendant N.M. was convicted on two counts of abusing his official position. He was also convicted of unlawful possession of a firearm. N.M. received an aggregate sentence of five years imprisonment and a fine of ten thousand euros. He is also prohibited from holding public office for a period of three years after his release.

The defendants R.Z. and X.Z. were each convicted of trading in influence and incitement to abuse official position. These offences were committed in co-perpetration. Both defendants received an aggregate sentence of four years imprisonment and fines of ten thousand euros each.

The defendant M.N. was convicted of assistance with abusing official position. She received a prison sentence of six months imprisonment together with a fine of ten thousand euros.

The defendant N.M. committed the offences while employed as a Special Prosecutor with the Special Prosecution Office of the Republic of Kosovo.

The case was prosecuted by a EULEX prosecutor. All parties have the right to appeal.
