27 July 2012

A mixed panel of one EULEX judge and two local judges in the District Court of Pejë/Peć have acquitted three persons who were accused of having conspired to commit murder.

S.K., X.K. and V.K. were acquitted on the charge of Criminal Association in relation to Aggravated Murder. One of the defendants was also acquitted on the charge of Unauthorized Ownership, Control, Possession or Use of Weapons.

This case was a re-trial which was ordered by the Supreme Court. Proceedings against two alleged co-accused were separated in June 2012 and will resume in a separate trial. Two suspects from Albania remain at large.

The case relates to a murder committed in August 2006 in the village Baica, Istog/Istok Municipality.

It was prosecuted by a EULEX District prosecutor.
