On 25 October, the Head of the European Union Rule of Law Mission in Kosovo (EULEX), Lars-Gunnar Wigemark, joined the German Ambassador to Kosovo, Jörn Rohde, in supporting students and teachers of the elementary and lower secondary school “DITURIA” in the village of Samadrexhë /Samodraža, in Suharekë/Suva Reka.

In the presence of the Mayor of Suharekë/Suva Reka, Bali Muharramaj, and of representatives from the education sector, Wigemark handed over to the School Director, Xhafer Zeqaj, a donation of furniture and IT equipment to help the school’s students and teachers. In August, the Embassy of Germany in Kosovo contributed to the renovation of 21 rooms, including 18 classrooms of this school.

Wigemark pointed out the importance of continuing to jointly support education institutions. “Education is everything,” Wigemark said, adding that there are many schools in Kosovo that need support. “I’m very happy that we could cooperate with the German Embassy, as, together, we can better help students and teachers,” Wigemark added.

The school’s Director expressed his deepest gratitude to the German Embassy for the recent renovation of the school facilities, and to EULEX for the donation, highlighting how this support will help to create a more comfortable environment for everyone.

Rohde recalled how essential it is to provide children with decent conditions to learn.

“The students are your future,” he said, adding: “The fact that we are here together with EULEX to give a small contribution to the school is a sign of how important it is for us to support the education sector.”

The ceremony ended with the handover of some symbolic presents from the school and its students to acknowledge the contribution of EULEX and the German Embassy and it was cheered by two delightful dance performances by students.

On the same day, Wigemark also met with the Deputy Mayor of Rahovec/Orahovac Municipality, Fatmir Iska, and handed over one vehicle to the Director of the Directorate of Agriculture, Forestry and Rural Development, Berat Duraku.
