EULEX marks the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists

02 November 2022

On the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists, the European Union Rule of Law Mission in Kosovo (EULEX) stands up for journalists who risk their own safety for the truth.

Through its robust monitoring of the Kosovo justice system, the Mission is monitoring cases of crimes committed against journalists. Based on the findings of its monitoring activity, EULEX appeals to the Kosovo rule-of-law institutions to improve the handling of these cases.

In particular, the Mission recommends that: criminal justice institutions should prioritize cases of attacks against journalists; the coordination system within these institutions should be strengthened to ensure the collection of relevant data of these cases; courts should provide reasoning for the motive of the crime and how this factor is weighed against other circumstances when determining the sentence.
