19 May 2023

On 19 May, the European Union Rule of Law Mission in Kosovo (EULEX) and its partner, the NGO Youth Initiative for Human Rights – Kosovo, organized a study visit to the Basic Court of Pristina for over 40 students of the elementary school Bajram Curri in Sllatinë e Madhe/Velika Slatina.

During the visit, the students had the opportunity to learn more about the functioning of the court and the basic principles of criminal justice in Kosovo by the Basic Court’s Vice President, Mentor Bajraktari, and the Court Administrator, Shaban Gërxhaliu.

In particular, Bajraktari replied to many interesting questions explaining the rights and obligations of citizens in front of the law, the role and responsibility of the court, and the structure of court hearings.

The visit was organized under the EULEX-supported project “Youth Empowerment – Enhancing Human Rights and Rule of Law Education in Schools”, aimed at enhancing human rights and rule-of-law education in schools.

The project kicked off on 13 January with a three-day training for ten law students, expected to deliver justice lectures for elementary school pupils. It included a training for 15 civic education teachers and it envisaged over 15 lectures in different elementary schools across Kosovo, as well as visits to courts.
