Head of EULEX Xavier de Marnhac continued his visits throughout Kosovo with a trip to Gjakovë/Djakova.
He met border police officers and talked with staff at the Kosovo Police station and municipal court house.
EULEX staff and Kosovo colleagues briefed and updated the Head of Mission about the region and the daily work they do in teams at the border, as police officers and in the courts.
At the end of his visit, de Marnhac said:
“I think this is a very useful visit for me to touch the reality on the ground and to realize all the support that EULEX is giving to the Kosovo institutions every day. We do this through our monitoring, mentoring, and advising (MMA) programme, working shoulder to shoulder with the Kosovo institutions. This is the way we prepare for the future of Kosovo institutions.”
“The region has many challenges –border control and smuggling for example. The briefings I received show the ongoing work and the results to tackle the challenges.”
“In the justice sector this visit gave me the opportunity to welcome the new designated judges here and support them in their huge task to reduce to backlog of cases.”
The Head of EULEX will continue to tour of the regions of Kosovo in the future.
