“The eyes of the world were focused on Kosovo yesterday to see whether it was able to organize safe and secure elections. I want to congratulate the Kosovo Police for their demonstrated professionalism which resulted in a positive outcome yesterday. The few incidents that occurred were handled in a professional and de-escalating way by the Kosovo Police”, said EULEX Head of Mission Xavier de Marnhac.

During election day the Kosovo Police was in charge to ensure the security of the elections and deployed around 6000 police officers for this task, supported by EULEX and KFOR. EULEX deployed over 500 international police officers all over Kosovo to monitor, mentor and advice them in their work, including anti-riot capabilities ready to step in should that have been needed.
