25. maj 2010. god.

Kees Klompenhouwer, Civilian Operations Commander of the European Union, today met with Kosovo Prime Minister Hashim Thaci. Mr. Klompenhouwer was accompanied by Yves de Kermabon, Head of EULEX.

“I had a very useful meeting with the Prime Minister. In all our discussions we emphasized the need for continuing cooperation between the government and EULEX,” Klompenhouwer said.

Prime Minister Thaci expressed his and the Government’s determination to increase the fight against corruption and establishing the rule of law irrespective of ethnical or political affiliation. “We are working closely with EULEX which is assisting Kosovo to achieve progress in building properly functioning rule of law institutions.”

Both sides agreed on a close partnership involving the Kosovo institutions in the fight against organized crime and corruption. The Kosovo institutions could take an increasingly leading role through, among others, the Anti-Corruption Task Force.

Mr. Klompenhouwer, who is currently on a three-day visit to Kosovo, is responsible for all Common and Security and Defence Policy (CSDP) civilian missions around the world, such as EULEX.
